If anyone else on zeroes.ca or elsewhere wants to be included in a 'migration' team that's available to assist cautious, disabled, and other folks with low spoons or tech difficulties who'd like a hand making their way to the fediverse, PM me here or on Matrix :matrix:

For folks/groups migrating to fedi who have the wherewithal to admin+mod their own instance, I'm available to help walk through the setup process (and perhaps even with some ongoing support) -- whether they can afford a bit more for managed hosting (eg, masto.host) or want to keep costs down and self-host (the latter is nearly as foolproof for less than 50 users thanks to things like Cloudron).

I have an instance... I believe it is 3.5, because for some reason the linode install of Debian couldn't install 4.x. imnow thinking of changing to a non US host and doing that transition might be a good time to upgrade to 4.x. how do I make sure my users' accounts and data can be maintained?

I've recently been thinking about looking into self-hosting some stuff; it's not an area I have much knowledge in but something I feel I ought to do, even if it's just a Mastodon server of my own (or a Pixelfed server - thanks btw haha!) But I also think it'll be an important area to gain knowledge of. (And maybe useful for my "Intersection" idea!)
